Victims have a right to self-defence. (PDF)

Social Darwinism: Dozens of Australian women and children are murdered by stalkers each year. In order to better protect themselves some well protected elites think it best that ordinary people are effectively rendered defenceless so criminals have a large pool of easy targets. The rich can afford to live in high security homes and hire armed guards to protect themselves and their property, while government ministers can appoint themselves bodyguards (at taxpayers expense) when they feel threatened, options not available to ordinary taxpayers who are responsible for much of the wealth accumulated by the rich.

Stalk victims: Some women do not realize they are being stalked until it is too late and often don't get a chance to call police. It is not just themselves women have to worry about, as there have been many instances of stalkers murdering children. These women have a right to self-defence and (unlike police) have an ethical and legal duty to protect their children even if the law stops them owning the practical means to defend themselves against illegally armed stalkers, but Australian governments have made it an offence for ordinary people to carry or even own a can of tear gas for defensive use, much less a gun.

Gun Defence: In a country where a thug with a gun can spend as little as two years in prison for murdering a young woman is it any wonder some Australians live in fear. We believe vulnerable stalk victims (women, the disabled, and people over 60) or their adult carers should be allowed to defend themselves and their loved ones with the same defensive weapons that professional security guards use if they pass a security guard type course. US research (read More Guns, Less Crime by John Lott) found non-discretionary handgun carry laws reduced the murder rate of states that adopted them by an average of 8.5% (no state had an increase).    •  Introduce a non-occupational security guard course at TAFE colleges.
   •  Let stalk victims (or adult carers) who pass the course carry a defensive weapon.
